Start in Konak

Konak is a useful starting point for a first visit to İzmir. The Clock Tower stands opposite the governor's office and dates to 1901, when it was built for the 25th anniversary of Sultan Abdülhamid II's accession. Take it as an orientation point rather than the start of a tightly timed itinerary.

Explore Kemeraltı

The historic Kemeraltı bazaar extends from Mezarlıkbaşı to Konak Square. The provincial culture directorate describes an approach from Konak ferry pier, behind the Clock Tower and along Anafartalar Caddesi. Give yourself room to explore the smaller streets and stop when something interests you; shop opening hours are not uniform.

Plan a journey on the bay

İZDENİZ publishes passenger-ferry and vehicle-ferry timetables separately. Its passenger timetable includes piers such as Konak, Alsancak, Karşıyaka and Bostanlı. Choose the actual departure pier, destination and day in the operator's planner rather than assuming that every pair has a direct service. Check service announcements before leaving.

İZBAN serves the Aliağa–Selçuk suburban corridor and has an airport connection. Its own site provides station and timetable information. Check the station, direction and any interchange needed for your destination; this guide does not promise a fixed airport transfer time or quote a fare.

Leave room for the wider region

Treat these as separately planned outings rather than extensions of one central-city walk.
